Ukrainian Forces Begins Mass Production of Novel Interceptor Unmanned Aerial Vehicles

Ukraine has announced the start of large-scale manufacturing for an innovative locally engineered interceptor drone to reinforce its air defences. Three initial manufacturers have started manufacturing, with 11 more getting ready to establish assembly lines, the defence ministry stated on Friday.

Advanced 'Octopus' System Tested in Combat Situations

The drones will be based on a domestically developed technology known as “Octopus” designed to neutralize Iranian-made drones. This technology has been tested in combat and proved effective “at night, amid electronic warfare and at low altitudes,” officials confirmed. Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelenskyy has set an ambitious goal of manufacturing up to 1,000 interceptors daily.

Recent Attack on the Capital Characterized as Calculated

The Ukrainian president characterized Russia’s latest attack against Ukraine as “deliberate, premeditated and wicked” following six individuals were killed and dozens wounded in a series of nocturnal attacks across Kyiv. Alert systems sounded in the capital shortly after midnight on Friday, with enemy UAVs quickly heard overhead and heavy machine-gun fire from Ukrainian air defences.

The president stated the country was targeted by hundreds of UAVs and multiple missiles. The deceased were at home in an apartment building on the capital's left bank when it was hit. Dozens of additional structures sustained damage, including the Azerbaijani embassy.

International Objection Following Diplomatic Compound Destruction

Azerbaijan said it issued a strong protest to the Russian ambassador this past Friday following the embassy damage. An explosion from a Russian Iskander missile destroyed a section of the compound's boundary wall and resulted in serious damage to the diplomatic compound, the Azerbaijani foreign ministry reported. There were no personnel injured, and an official representative said the diplomatic mission in Ukraine was continuing to operate.

Ukrainian Strikes Target Moscow's Energy Infrastructure

Moscow's Black Sea port of the port city halted for a period oil exports this past Friday – representing 2% of worldwide oil production – following a strike by Ukrainian forces. Ukraine’s general staff stated its military had fired Neptune cruise missiles and used various types of strike drones in the assault against Novorossiysk “within the framework of operations to reduce the military and economic potential of the Russian aggressor.”

Ukrainian forces separately targeted an oil refinery in the Saratov area and an energy depot in the adjacent Engels region during the night.

International Restrictions Affect Russian Energy Company

Russia’s second-largest oil producer Lukoil said on Friday it has been in talks with interested parties regarding its foreign assets after recent sanctions from Western nations and failure of a deal with the Gunvor trading house. “Final arrangements are to be disclosed once conclusive negotiations are completed and the necessary regulatory approvals have been obtained,” the company commented.
