Twenty-four Nigerian-born Female Students Freed After Eight Days Following Abduction

Approximately 24 West African girls taken hostage from their boarding school over a week ago are now free, the country's president announced.

Gunmen stormed the Government Girls Comprehensive Senior Secondary School situated within local province on 17 November, taking the life of an employee while capturing multiple pupils.

Nigerian President Bola Tinubu praised military personnel for their "swift response" to the incident - although precise conditions surrounding their freedom had not been clarified.

Africa's most populous nation has witnessed a spate of abductions in recent years - including over two hundred fifty youths captured at religious educational institution recently remaining unaccounted for.

In a statement, a special adviser of the administration verified that each young woman captured at educational facility located in the area had been accounted for, stating that the incident sparked imitation captures across further regional provinces.

National leadership stated that additional forces would be deployed in sensitive locations to stop additional occurrences related to captures".

In a separate post using digital platforms, government leadership stated: "The Air Force will continue ongoing monitoring across distant regions, aligning missions with ground units to properly detect, separate, interfere with, and neutralise any dangerous presence."

Exceeding 1,500 children got captured from educational institutions over the past decade, during which multiple young women were taken hostage amid the well-known major capture incident.

Days ago, at least 300 children and staff got captured at a learning facility, religious educational establishment, in Nigeria's Niger state.

Half a hundred individuals taken from the school have since escaped as reported by faith-based groups - however no fewer than two hundred fifty are still missing.

The main Catholic cleric across the territory has stated that national authorities is performing "insufficient measures" to recover the unaccounted individuals.

The capture incident at the institution represented the third occurrence affecting the nation in a week, compelling President Bola Tinubu to call off travel plans international conference held in South Africa at the weekend to deal with the crisis.

United Nations representative the diplomat called on world leaders to try everything possible" to support efforts to return kidnapped youths.

The envoy, previous head of government, said: "It's also incumbent on us to make certain learning facilities remain secure environments for learning, not spaces in which students can be plucked from their classroom for criminal profit."
