Thousands Come to Initial Israeli Memorial Service Since Hostage Bodies Came Back

When Michel Illouz gradually progressed through the throngs beneath the Mediterranean pines and date palms at the burial ground in Ra'anana, a city located 13 miles north of Tel Aviv, he expressed gratitude to countless visitors as feasible.

He had extended an invitation to the nation's citizens to stand with his relatives in grieving his young adult son, Guy, whose physical form had been returned from Gaza on Monday.

Massive Turnout

Numerous people answered the call. They filled the roads, accompanied the funeral vehicle carrying his body, and converged on the burial site in such significant numbers that the primary scheme to conduct the ceremony indoors had to be canceled.

As an alternative, the ceremony was held in the open air, set to the melody of singing birds.

Significant Milestone

This represented the initial burial ceremony since the remaining two dozen captives were returned from Gaza, along with multiple remains. Additional more than twenty of the deceased hostages remain missing, but at least this loved ones now had a particular spot to mourn and commemorate their son, as stated by close acquaintances.

Sorrowful Account

Guy Illouz, a performer and recording specialist, had been struck from behind at the Nova concert event during the Hamas offensive on October 7, 2023. Prior to the incident, he had reached out to his father from a concealed location to tell him he cared; to bid farewell. He was seized, and according to those captured simultaneously, he later died from his wounds due to inadequate care.

Loved One's Insight

A close acquaintance of the Illouz household, Michelle, aged 50, mentioned that it had been crucial to them that individuals came today. The Illouz relatives, comprising Guy's female relatives and male sibling, had practiced the mourning period, the seven-day period of bereavement, after discovering of his demise in December of the previous year. But now that Guy was at long last back with them, they needed "supportive individuals again."

"It warms my heart that you attended," expressed Michel. "Your presence is deeply appreciated."

Father's Tribute

He turned to his son. "Beloved Guy," he said, using a term of endearment, "it's challenging for me to imagine the days ahead without you. They grabbed you from me – they ended your life – they kidnapped me and robbed my persona and destroyed my spirit and heart."

"I feel empty inside since that meaningless attack by those evil terrorists when they caught you and instructed you to turn around, and then just discharged two needless bullets into your posterior."

Last Farewell

"So I found myself this morning, driving to Abu Kabir medical examiner's office to identify you and bid farewell. They took off the covering, and the primary view I observed was that smile of yours, that optimism, that calm demeanor and dignity that so defined you."

"I made contact, tried to detect your scent, caressed every bone in your body. I saw you, I was in private with you, and yes, I felt with total assurance that it was you. Yes, I know, Guy-shuk, that you've come back home. You've come back to your family's embrace, to all your companions, and to the countless people whose emotions your experience touched."

Family Strength

During the initial segment of the service, Illouz had focused entirely on consoling his junior family members. He tenderly caressed the strands of his female children, supported his male child, kissed his neck and composed himself for them. But then his voice broke.

Treasured Recollections

"I will yearn for so much journeying together through this nation, feeling you, enjoying your artistic creations, sitting in the hills and activating the stove to make coffee the way only you mastered – 'Papa, do you see the coffee bubbles? You have to heat it slowly, let the lather develop, then boil it again. Stir the coffee with rotating movements' – and then your smile while enjoying the drink and your pleasure in every single drop."

"Prior to my departure Abu Kabir today, I honored my word. I observed you, absorbed your presence one last time, and yes, I planted a kiss on the forehead. I was able to see your handsomeness even in the situation in which you came back."

Closing Statement

"Beloved child, I adore you completely, I cherish you. I will miss you every instant and brief period of my time. Be at ease, my beloved son, repose after a passage of multiple seasons through unfamiliar realms to us. I hold you dear, my dear Guy, my beloved firstborn son."
