Ex- Cincinnati Bengals and Texas Receiver Jordan Shipley Badly Injured in Ranch Accident

Ex-University of Texas standout and professional football player Jordan Shipley is receiving treatment after suffering serious burns in an accident on his ranch near his Texas hometown.

The Tragic Event

According to a family statement, Shipley was operating a machine when it caught fire. The 40-year-old managed to escape, it was after he sustained severe burns over a significant portion of his body. He was able to get to one of his workers, who transported him to a local hospital. He was then care-flighted to Austin, where he is in critical but stable condition.

“We ask for prayers for a complete recovery and the prevention of infections and complications on his journey back to health,” wrote his brother, Jaxon Shipley, on social media.

Extent of Burns

It has been reported that Shipley suffered full-thickness burns to over one-fifth of his body. His brother noted that the main danger at this stage is the threat of infection and pneumonia.

A Look Back at Jordan Shipley's Career

Shipley received Associated Press All-America honors while at Texas in 2009. During his college career, he amassed 248 receptions for 3,191 yards and 33 scores. A dual-sport athlete, he also competed in track for the university.

Drafted in the third round of the 2010 NFL draft by the Bengals, he had stints with Cincinnati, Jacksonville, and Tampa Bay over three seasons. He officially retired in 2014.
