Rob Edwards and O'Neil are two of the early candidates in the frame to replace the former manager as head coach of Wolverhampton Wanderers.

The previous coach was sacked on the weekend following the squad's 10-match without a victory start to the Premier League campaign.

And both candidates - both of who have historic links to the club - are among the names to be considered by the Wolves ownership.

Edwards is currently at another club, which would pose a possible obstacle to his appointment at Molineux.

Nevertheless the former Luton head coach - who made more than 100 of appearances for the club during his playing career - is considered a leading contender for the vacancy.

The 42-year-old is reportedly enjoys backing from the club board as they start the process of hiring a new head coach.

Gary O'Neil is additionally appearing as a surprise contender, although he would be a shock choice given he was sacked by Wolves in the previous winter.

The former West Ham United player is out of work meaning the club would not need to provide any buyout fee.
