Chiefs Confirm Domestic Violence Claims Connected to Wide Receiver Rashee Rice
The Kansas City Chiefs issued a statement on Wednesday evening indicating they are aware of claims of abuse made public in social media posts by a former girlfriend of player Rashee Rice and had been in contact with the league office.
The team did not mention Rice by name in their announcement and said they would have “nothing more to add at this time”.
Allegations Shared on Social Media
Dacoda Nichole Jones, who likewise did not name the athlete by name, posted a series of photos on social media that seemed to depict signs of physical abuse. She did say the individual in question was the father of her children, and reports indicate she has two children with the football player, whom the Chiefs selected in the 2023 draft.
Official Complaints Currently Not on File
No official complaints were available in Overland Park, Kansas where the alleged abuse is said to have occurred.
Rice's Prior Off-Field Troubles
Rice was absent for the initial part of this NFL campaign due to an league-mandated ban for his role in instigating a multi-vehicle accident on a Texas roadway that resulted in several individuals hurt. He was given a month of incarceration and probationary supervision after entering a guilty plea to felony charges.
Statistically, he concluded the year with 53 receptions for 571 receiving yards and five touchdowns as the Kansas City finished 6-11 and failed to qualify for the postseason for the first occasion in a decade.
